New in February 2017: Vegan-Friendly Dairy-Free Yogurt
Want to make your own yogurt but don’t know where to start? Or have you already tried & failed?
I know from my own experience what tends to go wrong for beginners. Simple Mason Jar Yogurt includes the advice and process you need to avoid mistakes and turn out great yogurt every time.
My method is about as easy as it gets without buying an automatic yogurt maker. Short, helpful chapters include one on equipment to point you to the best yogurt-making tools (most likely in your own kitchen) and Myths and FAQ sections to address common questions and misperceptions.
Here’s what testers had to say…
“I did another batch this weekend…perfect results once again. I think your method is fantastic and I love the results. Again, the instructions are super clear and I think anyone who buys the book will be successful if they follow your instructions.”
“clear, simple to follow, good results without a lot of unnecessary steps”
“I’d use this recipe/technique any day!! Especially since it’s just me!”
“I actually made a pig of myself and ate the entire thing with some strawberries and no added sugar. I didn’t eat much dinner so that’s my excuse :)”
If you already make your own yogurt
If your method doesn’t consistently produce good yogurt, dirties too many dishes, takes up too much space, forces you to give up your oven or hang around the house switching a crockpot or heating pad off and on – there is an easier way.
Want to make yogurt in your Instant Pot but don’t like the method included in the manual? Simple Mason Jar Yogurt will help you make better yogurt with less mess and fewer dishes to wash.
At last – a dairy-free recipe that rivals dairy yogurt!
After the first edition of Simple Mason Jar Yogurt was published I began receiving requests for a dairy-free yogurt recipe. I wanted to help, but yogurt making with milk alternatives presented quite a few challenges and drawbacks.
I discovered in my initial research that everyone else seemed to settle for dairy-free yogurt recipes that I thought were unacceptable. Too thin. Too many steps. Too high in calories or not rich enough to be satisfying. Not neutral enough in taste that you could eat it plain, with fruit or get crazy and make tzatziki.
The ingredient lists for most commercial dairy-free yogurts are lengthier and more unpronounceable than traditional yogurt. Even worse for my dairy-free and vegan friends is price and availability – especially for the better brands.
These were problems I was eager to solve. With a combination of experience, trial and error and a bit of outside-the-box thinking, I created a recipe that fits the bill.
My dairy-free recipe is even easier than the Simple Mason Jar Yogurt dairy recipe. It makes yogurt that’s thicker and richer than most commercial vegan yogurts – with no added thickeners, and it’s tasty enough to eat plain. If you’re tired of the abysmal state of the vegan / dairy-free yogurt niche, try my recipe.
Just what you need to know to make great yogurt
No “History of Yogurt” or “Yogurt Microbiology” here. Just a mostly hands-off way to make yogurt, without buying a one-trick pony appliance or doing crazy things to create an incubation environment.
Love your Instant Pot, but not its official yogurt recipe?
I love the ease of my original method, but when I got an Instant Pot one of the first things I tried was the yogurt recipe. It wasn’t as creamy as my regular Mason Jar Yogurt, and had a “cooked” flavor.
There’s no disguising bad yogurt when you eat it plain like I do, so I adapted my method for the Instant Pot. Want better, easier yogurt from your Instant Pot? Try Simple Mason Jar Yogurt. I bet you’ll like it 🙂
